“Maybe It’s All In Your Head”: The Delegitimization of Black and Brown Pain at the Hands of a White Medical System

Black and Brown women face misdiagnoses, delayed diagnoses, withholding of care, and deaths at a disproportionately higher rate than their white counterparts. Black and Brown women are regularly subjected to being told that their symptoms are in their head, that they are overreacting, or even hysterical.
